Top 10 Restaurants I Recommend in Toronto

Top 10 Restaurants I Recommend in Toronto

Hello, hello, hello…

Welcome back! As many of you know, I used to work at The Adelaide Hotel in Toronto as a Concierge (since 4 days ago- to be exact). Within this role, I was often exposed to exquisite dining options & thought who better to share this information with (besides my guests, of course) than YOU, my amazing readers.

I don’t live in the city, but if YOU do, or spend your time in Toronto, please be sure to check out some of these recommendations. I decided to include a TOP TEN list, rather than specific cuisine, so that we can go over a few. Most of these are located in the Financial District. These are restaurants I recommend to my guests on a daily basis and NOT ONCE have I received negative feedback. That says a lot, especially in a city where there are literally restaurants on every corner. Let me know your thoughts down below. I’m curious to know if you’ve checked out any of these top spots! Without further ado, let’s get into my TOP recommended restaurants.

Richmond Station

REVIEW: If you are looking for a unique experience with amazing service & cuisine, Richmond Station is the place to be. Co-Owned by Top Chef Canada winner, Carl Heinrich, Richmond Station is one of the trendiest spots to be in Toronto right now. The restaurant, which is designed to resemble a subway station, serves farm-to-table, fresh, Canadian cuisine, plus features daily chalkboard specials. The ambiance at Richmond Station is welcoming and cozy. This restaurant prides themselves in being more personable than most chains (owners are often present, staff turnover is low, plus they actually CARE about the individual they are serving), and I couldn’t agree more. Be sure to check out their Chef’s table, or Station Burger, which is a top seller.

REVIEW: Terroni does an excellent job of featuring traditional southern Italian cuisine in a vibrant and casual setting. The restaurant on Adelaide is housed in Toronto’s beautiful and historic York County Court House circa 1853. Terroni has four unique levels designed to cater to whatever your specific needs may be! When you step through the main doors, in the enotega, you’re enveloped in the perfect after work spot for a cocktail or two. Continue on into the dining room, which has an open-concept kitchen & atrium. There is also plenty of additional space available for hosting private functions. Stop by on Wednesday’s between 5-7 pm to join in on Terronitivo- Italian happy hour! There are three locations in total (in Toronto), so be sure to check out their other spots if this is not nearby.

REVIEW: This Fine-dining Indian bistro is located in the heart of St. Lawrence Market. Bindia focuses on a cultivating a modern dining experience using fresh, quality ingredients, without compromising the vital Indian flavours in their dishes. The decor is sleek & modern, with personal and traditional Indian details. There is also a large space available for hosting private functions, which can accommodate up to 50 people. For authentic and delicious Indian food, in a contemporary environment, be sure to spot by Bindia! PS. TRY THE BUTTER CHICKEN!!!

REVIEW: Although this restaurant is a bit on the pricier side, I promise you, it is worth every penny. The restaurant is housed inside the historic Dineen building. The Chase Fish & Oyster is located on the first level, and The Chase is located on the fifth. Both are excellent options & I’ve had excellent reviews from both. The Chase Fish & Oyster is a tad more casual and offers an East-Coast vibe with their decor and dishes (which are mostly shellfish based). The fifth floor location is definitely more upscale and is perfect if you are celebrating any type of special occasion. At The Chase, there is an indoor-outdoor bar, which features a 75-seat patio with beautiful views of Toronto’s Financial District, as well as an open-concept kitchen. The food is top quality and is plated perfectly. Be sure to try the Yonge Platter for a little bit of everything (makes a great appetizer).

Baro

REVIEW: If you like Latin-American cuisine, Baro is the place for you. With a variety of dishes (the Chori Papa is a fan favourite) and a warm & authentic ambiance, you will almost like you are in a resort. You also have the option of sitting right at the open-kitchen concept tables, where you can watch Head Chef, Steven Gonzalez, and his team in action. Check out Pablo’s Snack House (second floor) from 5-8 PM for $5 specials including delicious snacks and glasses of wine. On the third floor, Baro hosts private events. They are COMMITTED to customizing your event exactly how you want it. Be sure to check out this hot spot!

King Taps

Cuisine: Canadian / Lounge

REVIEW: This two-storey bar is a crowd favourite, for sure. King Taps is often praised for having the best pizza in the Financial District, and I really can’t disagree. They also have a large selection of craft beers, with 50 of them on tap. It is simply fantastic. King Taps is the perfect, casual spot to go after work for drinks or for a late-night bite. I will say, King Taps tends to be a bit on the busier side & with that comes the loud music. If you are going for an intimate date or conversation, this is not the place for you. Come by between 2-5 PM or 10 PM- close for daily specials at prices that are hard to beat (including 1/2 price pizzas!). King Taps also serves Brunch now, on Saturdays & Sundays until 4 pm ($5 mimosas- woohoo!). If you’re a wine lover like me, stop by on Tuesdays & Wednesdays for 1/2 price bottles!

Modus Ristorante

REVIEW: Open Monday- Friday, Modus is THE place to be for upscale and authentic Italian cuisine. I’m a huge Italian food lover, and Modus Ristorante did not disappoint. When you walk in the front door, you will notice a large bar & lounge, perfect for after-work cocktails. Once in the dining room, you will see white table cloths and elegant decor, along with the Chef’s table & open-concept kitchen. The Lobster Tagliatelle is simply phenomenal and the wine selection is extensive, with a focus on Italian and South American wines. The modern venue is also the perfect place to host an event. Modus can accommodate up to 75 guests at a time in private rooms and offers fantastic set menus which feature popular menu items such as the Buffalo Mozzarella & Cornish Hen. Customized menus are also available.

Pai

REVIEW: Pai Northern Thai Kitchen is one of the most authentic ways in Toronto to experience true Thai cuisine at it’s best. Chef Nuit Regular & her husband, Jeff, own quite a few exquisite Thai restaurants in Toronto, including Sukho Thai & Khao San Road. The story behind the opening of Pai, and their journey into Toronto in general, is also very touching. You can read more about their story, here. If you’re looking for a fancy and upscale dining experience, look elsewhere, however, if you are intrigued to try authentic and delicious Thai food in a relaxed setting, BE SURE TO EAT HERE!

ki modern Japanese & bar

ki toronto

Location: 181 Bay Street- Corner of Bay & Wellington (Brookfield Place)
Price Range:
$$$

Cuisine: Japanese
Website: http://www.kijapanese.com/
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kijapanese/
Top Dishes: *Photos from Instagram

REVIEW: For a sleek & contemporary Japanese dining experience, look no further than Ki. Ki provides an exciting dining experience for guests, with dishes that are meant to be shared. Choose between dishes prepared at the sushi bar or hot kitchen, based on your preference. The large bar is a great social spot for after-work drinks and sushi. Ki is also equipped to accommodate large groups- hosting up to 32 people for sit-down meals, or 40 for cocktail receptions. Definitely a place to check out for an upscale, modern dining experience and amazing sushi.

The Gabardine

Cuisine: Canadian/ Comfort Food

REVIEW: Open Monday- Friday, the Gabardine MAY be the cutest spot on Bay Street. Just walk by, and tell me if you aren’t immediately drawn in by the fairy-lit ceiling and warm, cozy ambiance. It has a laid-back and country feel, for sure.  Besides that, the food is simply amazing. The cuisine is classic comfort food at it’s absolute best. Mac and cheese, pot pies and cheeseburgers are the crowd-pleasers on this menu. The Daily Chalkboard Specials also tend to be major hits! Keep in mind, the restaurant is quite small, so if you have a larger group, be sure to book a reservation.

There you have it, guys! AS usual, none of these reviews are sponsored in any way. This is just my honest feedback.
